Suncast TCB6800 6.5 Cubic Foot Tumbling Composter Reviews
27 of 28 people found the following review helpful ridiculous assembly, This review is from: Suncast TCB6800 6.5 Cubic Foot Tumbling Composter (Lawn & Patio) To agree with both previous reviewers--the assembly of this compost tumbler was absolutely ridiculous. The nuts and bolts to fasten the two halves together were bad. The "lock" for keeping it closed, a piece of plastic that I am fairly sure won't last a year, was practically impossible. In fact, one of those locks has come off today and I can't get it back in. I'm not bad at this assembly stuff, but this particular piece is particularly stupid. 28 of 30 people found the following review helpful Sturdy enough to do the job, By oscargirl (saint paul, mn) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suncast TCB6800 6.5 Cubic Foot Tumbling Composter (Lawn & Patio) I purchased this a few months ago at a local home improvement center (a little cheaper than here). I left it in the box until yesterday and figured about 30 minutes max to put together (wrong). It took me the better part of two hours to assemble the unit. As another reviewer noted, the screws and bolts for the drum assembly are a real pain- I did it myself (middle aged female), but I recommend more tools than what is stated on the instructions. Use a small pliers to hold the bolt steady as you tighten each of the screws; once I got a few going like that it was easier than trying to hold a wrench (recommended in instructions). You also need to ensure that all the parts are there. Some are taped inside other parts so you may think something is missing when it is there. That also wasted some time. Nevertheless, once assembled the unit looks sturdy and functions well. I would not use the turn lever to rotate the drum- only use it to unlock the drum. It seems much easier on the unit to... (Original: I strongly dislike it already), By Versican (Midwest) - See all my reviews This review is from: Suncast TCB6800 6.5 Cubic Foot Tumbling Composter (Lawn & Patio) I've got to get my 2 cents worth while I remember this. I just purchased this from a store (for about seventy bucks).I didn't have a problem with assembly until bolting the barrel onto the frame. The middle pipe was perhaps too short, or the barrel a bit warped as I couldn't get both sides of the pipe bolted onto the frame -- just one. There was not enough pipe sticking out the other end. My husband squeezed the barrel (think big bear hug) until I could get enough pipe exposed to stick a bolt into it and attach to the frame. Fine. Problem solved. Putting the plastic "closed" pieces on were beyond me until I removed the lid. Once the lid was removed, I could see what they wanted me to do and it was easy. Now, to actually USE this is going to be a drag. Taking the lid on and off every time is more effort than I expected. If you add compost every other day or so, it's going to be a pain. And I don't think my 7 year old will be able to open and... Read more |
