The Sun-Mar 400 is a continuous composter with a 11 bushel (100 gallon) capacity. It is excellent for composting kitchen scraps and cut up materials from small gardens. (And even called SunMar customer support, though they seemed to not understand what the problem was and recommended water and turning it more, which didn't solve the problem.)The problem is that the English instructions are very misleading and do not describe how the composter actually works, or how best to care for it in order to maxamize compost production. On a blog I learned a bit more about how the composter is supposed to work. Misconceptions: ---------------------- From the promo material online and in the directions I thought that when items were deposited into the inner drum they should be compost (at least that's what the pictures and graphics seemed to depict). So when I would peek in the inner drum and see dried up leaves and other items that were very much NOT composted, I'd toss... Flawed in concept and structure. You'd be better off saving your money and making a compost pile in the backyard. This Composter is a ripoff!, This review is from: Sun-Mar 400 100-Gallon Rotating Compost Bin (Lawn & Patio) I have 10 different composters. This one is the most expensive and the most problematic. The customer service people are rude, the unit bends away from the drum unless you use about 5 gallons of compost at the most, mine has dropped off the frame twice, the cheap plastic end bracket that holds the drum in place has about as much quality as the lid to a gallon of milk, the turning handle has broken off, the "finished" compost is not finished and has to be raked out the end (unlike the ludicrous video). Don't buy this piece of expensive gadgetry! Instead, search YouTube and build one from a plastic barrel- it will be way less irritating. |
