Made of 100% recycled plastic, it is molded right here in the USA, and its dark color absorbs like and helps heat up the materials in side, speeding up the composting process. Inside the bin, the walls are ribbed providing added strength and superior mixing action.
With 20 ventilation slots, the compost inside the bin will always have enough oxygen to keep it well aerated, and when standing upright, the slots allow compost tea to drain out easily into the soil. A single hole on each of the four panels of the bin make an easy-to-use port for a compost thermometer. This makes it easy to get a quick, mess-free temperature reading on the compost inside without even opening the bin.
The tumbling action of the bin keeps the contents inside mixed well, creating compost in almost half the time as a stationary compost bin. The bin holds up to 60 gallons (or about 9.3 cubic feet), and the sturdy, powder coated steel legs hold the bin securely off the ground. Along with being off the ground, the twist-locking lids on either end keep animal pests out and away from the compost. The legs also lock into place, so moving the Spin Bin in the yard is easy to do without the legs falling off.
With compost instructions embossed on the inside of each lid, you can always have a quick reference for what items can and cannot be composted.

I have the Suncast tumbler and got this one as a second bin based on the two recommendations and that it's made in the US. The quality is fine but the design is really poor. It's only slightly easier to assemble than the Suncast, but there are no mixing tines in the barrel to help mix the compost as it is tumbled, no lock to keep the barrel upright, and no cross bar between the legs for stability. If the bin had been $20 or $30 cheaper than the Suncast it would seem right. But having paid $30 more I am very disappointed. The only reason I didn't send it back was that I had unpacked everything and build half of it before I realized that it wasnt very good.
[Edit: now that I am using it, I also realized that the top can't be opened one-handed like some of the others. I really wish I had sent it back and gotten a better designed one.]

I have several composters and this one is a great deal for the price.
I prefer tumbling composters because they speed up the process significantly over bins with far less manual labor. This one is really great because my son likes to spin it and it works quickly enough that he can understand what happens to the "waste" in a fairly short time. This composter comes in a pretty small box relative to the size it is finished. There are lots of screws but once assembled it works like a charm. I like the hole for the thermometer, a feature my other composter doesn't have.
A great addition to my composting collection - maybe the best.

The Spin Bin composter arrived in a few days. My boys and I assembled it in about 35 minutes, an electric screw driver would have made it quicker but mine was not charged, luckily my 5 & 8 yr old like to help. The stand is sturdy, and the lids on both sides are nice, I won't have to flip it over to add new material. I'm sure it will work well since it's well vented and the tumbling part makes it more practical to mix the compost inside. Will try to follow up later with more details after our first batch of compost is made...
