Product Description

The Tumbleweed compost tumbler has a neat, compact design makes it an ideal compost bin for any level composter with any amount of garden space. By giving the Tumbleweed a spin every few days, it's easy to create fresh compost. The 100% UV protected, recycled plastic is a dark green color. When the sun hits the dark compost bin, it heats up the contents inside, speeding up the breakdown process. A stainless steel bar going through the compost bin breaks up any larger clumps that might form, further helping the breakdown process. The galvanized steel leg base makes this composting unit extremely sturdy, no matter how heavy the compost inside gets. These legs won't rust, so the composter will last many years out in the elements. With dual-end twist lock lids, it's easy to add or remove material no matter which end is up. The locking lids also prevent any small animal pests from getting into the bin. The lids are also vented, keeping the compost aerated while allowing any compost tea to drain out into the soil under the bin. The Tumbleweed compost tumbler holds up to 58 gallons of materials while continuously breaking down kitchen scraps, yard debris and other compostable materials into rich, organic compost that plants will love.

  • 58 gallon capacity for your leaves, grass and kitchen waste
  • Steel frame design is easy to assemble stand.
  • Stainless steel central rod will not rust and helps aerate each time it tumbles
  • Dual locking lids have 4 vents to help provide needed oxygen to your compost
  • Finished compost as quickly as 21 days

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product - Buy 2!, January 17, 2009

We have just gotten our second one. This is a great product because we can just push to tumble instead of using a shovel or rake or special compost turner. Since we both have back problems that just didn't work.

It works real well even in the shade. We have ours on the north side of our house (in CA) so it takes longer than four weeks, but it still works. It does get fruit flies and other insects and worms, but we haven't had problems with rodents or raccoons, which do live in the area. If you don't put meat or fat in it, it doesn't smell like food, it smells like dirt, so mammals aren't attracted.

However once you get it filled you do need to let it sit and compost without adding anything else (it helps to keep turning). Then you need to find a place to store the compost and to move it, which was too strenuous for us. So our solution was to buy two, one for storage, one for putting new stuff in. The second one doesn't take up a lot of extra space because... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great compost but hard to tumble, May 15, 2008

This compost tumbler really works--compost is cooking fast, smells great and the tumbler is a lot tidier than our old open compost heap. The one drawback is that I have a lot of trouble turning it over (I'm 5'7" with pretty good upper body strength); it's easy for my 6'3" husband; we both think that I'm just a little short to get the leverage I need. Smaller and/or weaker gardeners may prefer a composter that's easier to rotate.
But we'd buy this one again in a flash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Idea!, October 22, 2008

I originally ordered this product from the Tumbleweed company (in Dallas) and I will say that I did not have a good experience overall in terms of shipping. After almost three weeks of the initial order I discovered that the composter had already made a whole trip back to Dallas before it got to me again. According to a representative at Tumbleweed, UPS had lost the package and because of that it was returned to the sender. She re-sent it via FedEx and I received it within 3 days as promised. FYI...

Now, about the actual product...the construction is amazing! Its a simple design (i'm a 28 year old man, by the way) but it will take you a little time. There are roughly 18 srews and non-slip nuts that you must use around the circumference of the barrel. This is to attach both ends to make it whole. Only tools you will need is a cross tip screw driver, space on your floor, and maybe pliers. Outside of that step, the rest was easy. I was very impressed with its size. I mean, its... Read more
